Seventh Anniversary of SEA (India)
The Seventh Anniversary function of SEA India was celebrated on July 19, 2008 at Toubro Block, L&T ECC Ltd., Chennai. Mr R. Thiruvengadam, President, SEA India welcomed invitees and participants. Mr. J. Ganguly, Executive Vice President, L&T ECC Ltd. in his Presidential Address advised safety engineers to take a lead role and be responsible in taking up safety issues with their managements. He stressed the point that safety engineers need to be integral part of the management team.
Dr. Nalini Krishnan, Director, The Hindu, in her Keynote Address reiterated that workplace safety could be effective only if it is treated as part of the management system. She also suggested large companies with excellent safety standards to guide and lead less informed and small companies.
Chief Guest on the occasion, Mr. S. Elangovan, Chief Inspector of Factories said that safety awareness at workplace is key to success in implementing safety systems. He advised safety engineers to spread safety awareness not only to industry personnel but to the entire society. He also stated that some companies who do not pay required attention for the safety of their workers which sometimes lead to fatal accidents or heavy damages to equipments.
